Our Payroll Feature Concept
Make payroll painless

At our home inspection company, we spent a ton of time on payroll. I mean DAYS. Between exporting data, hand calculations, editing spreadsheets, trying out different integrations, calculating miles, reimbursements, bonuses, we put the hours in.
We also loved paying our people fast. Because many field service companies pay on commission, including ours, we wanted to get our techs the money they earned quickly and often. That’s why we decided to have a weekly pay schedule.
Only issue with that is if you are running payroll every week and it takes you the better part of a full day, that’s not a great use of time as a owner or a HR pro.
That’s why we set out to solve this problem. This was one of the first major undertakings in Attik.
The concept
We wanted 3 things our payroll module.
Real Time Data. We wanted all the data to have a single source of truth. Meaning all the payroll calculations would happen real time, without the need of exporting data.
This was made possible by directly calculating the payroll on the live data, making changes, and “Saving“ the payroll once you are done.
Maximum control, all in one
We never wanted to be limited. When running a field service business, you are constantly getting creative with your workforce, and that means you are usually getting creative with compensation. Wheather that be bonuses, vacations, salary, hourly, special bonuses, adjustments to pay, reimbursements, splitting pay etc, we wanted it to be doable.
We also hated having to use multiple tools. Hourly in this, miles using this other app, vacations over here… “but don’t forget to block it on the calendar!” This kind of separation drove us nuts. We put it all together in one package.
Transparency to our team.
We struggled to build comprehensive paystubs for our team. The stub out of the payroll software would show totals but not how they earned the splits. And if we wanted to show splits, things would get pretty manual.
We aimed to have a single spot for employees to see their breakdowns, splits, and payroll history all in one place.
This is a culmination of years of ideas including opinions from other companies, employees, owners and generally really smart people. Hope it helps you as much as it did us.
